Porter Goss Resigns
The CIA director has tendered his resignation after a relatively short tenure (he was confirmed in September of 2004).
He began his tenure on the right foot -- trying to get rid of some of the political (and anti-Bush) gameplayers at the agency. No doubt he made enemies then, and still has them. Certainly, his efforts to clean up the CIA have been only partly successful, as the whole Mary McCarthy leak scandal highlights.
It's not clear yet why he resigned. He may have lost an internal power struggle in the administration, it may be a health issue, or there may be some scandal of which we are yet unaware -- and certainly rumors are flying (but we're not linking to any, lest it perpetuate a falsehood).

OSS became CIA to stop another Pearl Harbor. Now we need something to stop another 9/11. Does not matter what it is or how it works as long as it does the job. Pick a Dem to run the CIA and then ignore the CIA as the new world goes on.
