Bust the Pork

Senator Tom Coburn begs the President to veto the pork-laden bill titled "Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Hurricane Recovery, 2006." Senator Coburn notes that the Senate has found itself able to "reduce" the $110 billion bill by a mere $15 million.

Word is that Senator Coburn isn't always the easiest guy to get along with. But one thing's for certain -- he's a person of principle. And he "fights the power" to stand up for what he believes.

Funny that he isn't revered by the press as a "maverick" like John McCain. Could the MSM's decided disinclination to lionize Coburn have anything to do with the fact that McCain bucks the party in order to trend left -- on issues ranging from immigration to campaign finance reform -- whereas Coburn is a small government, pro-life consrvative?

Update: Sounds like the President is prepared to veto, 35 senators pledge to stand by him (thus making an override impossible) and the House has declared the Senate bill DOA. 'Bout time.
