Support Snowball's Bill
Remember Snowball, the little white dog who was forcibly separated from the little boy he belonged to during the post-Katrina evacuation? The little boy was so distressed at having to leave Snowball behind that he threw up. Later, thankfully, the pair was reunited.
S. 2548 is a bill that would minimize the likelihood of something like that happening again. Sponored by Republican senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, it requires local and state disaster plans to include provisions for household pets and service animals in the event of a major disaster or emergency.
Non-pet owners can't really fathom the depth of the bond between dogs and their people -- I certainly didn't until Sir Winston came along. But it's real, and I can certainly understand the people who couldn't leave their pets (as crazy as that sounds).
Let's avoid human and canine tragedy by supporting Snowball's bill, S. 2548.
