Jonathan Chait thinks so. She certainly has a problem in trying to decide how negative to go on Obama, as anything she does to knock him down may well have a jujitsu effect of making her even more unlikable than she already is.

But the GOP needn't think it's out of the woods on this score. In choosing a nominee, Republicans need to figure out who can be tough, should Obama be the nominee, without being mean or angry -- because if Americans vote against Barack, it won't be because they don't like him. And the last thing the GOP needs is the meme that the MSM will work hard to purvey, that is, that they're being illegitimately unkind to a young, talented, idealistic African American candidate of undoubted political talent.
