Secondguessing the CW

In recent days, the conventional wisdom has suggested that the midterm elections are the Democrats' to lose.

But maybe not so fast . . .

Gary Andres suggests that the Democrats may be msireading the electorate. Byron York notes that the Dems' strategy of trying to win without any plans of their own reeks of arrogance. And Donald Lambro offers several reasons why it's hardly time for Republicans to panic.

Smoke out the Democrats' weakness and opportunism on national security; show that Republicans are on the side of smaller, more efficient government -- and talk about the economy. Those are some of the ways that Republican concern and Democrat elation over conventional wisdom about the midterms could turn out to have been premature.

Amen on the heartfelt mea culpas.

But Republicans also need to play up their strong suits like foreign policy, national defense, and the economy.

Kill the Terrorists
Cut the Taxes
Confirm the Judges

Was it Hugh Hewitt that said every Republican campaign should hinge on those 9 words?
