"Embarassed Angels" Alert

This story is a sad sign of the times -- the American Medical Association is warning young college women that it's probably not a good idea to drink to excess over spring break, as such lapses can lead to impaired decision making, which in turn can lead to unprotected, indiscriminate sex and embarassing behaviors like stripping off one's shirt in front of a television camera. How profoundly sad that such activities are even thinkable, so that such a warning is even needed.

Last week, this blog linked to a wonderful piece by Peggy Noonan called "Embarassing the Angels", which discussed how difficult it's become to remain a lady (in the fine, old-fashioned sense of the term) in America today. As Noonan wrote, "America has become creepy for women who think of themselves as ladies. It has in fact become assaultive."

It's true. But the fault does not rest entirely with men. It also rests with people like the women at whom this AMA warning is aimed -- not, in most cases, because they are "bad" people or inferior human beings, but because they haven't been taught any better and society expects little from them.

The Anchoress has decided that, for Lent, she will tell people who are embarassing the angels that they, in fact, are doing so -- including "teenage suburban girls talking like 7th Avenue streetwalkers while they flick their cigarettes."

Young women who use spring break as an excuse to engage in behaviors that they would someday blush to share with their own daughters are certainly "embarassing the angels." To them, I would say: Please don't -- for your own sake, and for ours. You have been made in the image of God, and you are so much better than that.

This is not a brand new problem. Years ago, a Western Michigan University prof published a paper recommending that prospective parents have to get a license to have children, and that a test be passed to get a license. Many kids have little instruction from home during formative years. And we know what a bang-up job public schools do. The "Natalee Holloway in Aruba" case shows what terrible things can happen to naive young women.

The "Girls Gone Wild" attitude is in large part a
function of the male to female ratio. When females
outnumber men by about 10% it is girls gone wild.

BTW this also explains the "free sex" 60s.

It also explains a lot of current black culture. Put a
lot of men in prison and the women left behind act
like hos to snag a man or at least his sperm.

Nature in action. Something conservatives used to know
something about.

It used to be one of the reasons that conservatives
saw war as a last resort. (I'm down with the current
war. It is a matter of no choice)

BTW it also explains the roaring 20s.

Here is an article on demographics that discusses the
issue.

Demographics

It is surprising that so many ostensibly well educated people know so little about human population dynamics.

BTW the Bible, I believe, alludes to post war promiscuity. It is a very old problem. Where there is a shortage of males polygamy is often the answer.

Given that on today's college campuses the male to female ratio approaches 1 to 1.5 and you will see why there is a problem. It has nothing to do with Democrat propaganda. If it did it would be easier to fix.
