Disgraceful and Amazing
Unbelievably, the Detroit News has published this piece of what can only be described as total propaganda.
You'll get the hint from its title: "Place Anti-Israel Remarks in Context." The piece goes on to assert that:
It is very clear that Ahmadinejad was not making an anti-Semitic statement. Jews live in Iran and have representatives in the Parliament. The Iranian president was referring to Israel's unjust political system.
Ah, now I understand what Iran's president meant when he called Israel a "disgraceful blot" that should be "wiped off the map." He was just talking politics. Perhaps that's why his speech was titled "A World Without Zionism." What he really meant was "A World Without the current Israeli political system."
Would the Detroit News really have published such ugly spin on any other topic?

Some people still seek to emulate the Final Solution to the Jewish Problem. Israel with all its democratic shortcomings is preferable to the perfect Middle East model of Syria.

yeah so the president of Iran is evil and dangerous. no disagreement here. But you really need to understand something. Zionism is a political movement. It always was. It is a nationalistic political movement that many Jews have in the past disagreed with. So the title actually suggests that what the Detriot News says was true. Zionism is the movement to provide a homeland for Jews (before the Balfour declaration made Palestine open for settlement they were interested in Uganda), and so to wipe out Zionism would mean to wipe out the Israeli state.
Of course both you and the Detriot News are missing the point that if you eradicate Israel you are eradicating people along with a political system, many of whom are not Zionists (most probably) and do not support what is being done to the Palestinians.
