A Democratic Disgrace

Anyone who wonders about what Democrats' priorities are now knows: House Democrats have taken a recess without approving an intelligence bill to protect America.

One party is serious about national security; one party isn't.

That's really all you need to know.

Carol,

By not passing this legislation, the law merely reverts to the 1978 FISA law, which is faily comprehensive and allows for spying on terrorists. The 1978 law merely creates a legal framework, with checks and balances, that this newer law lacks.

And in my opinion, the 1978 law still does not go far enough to protect our freedoms and the encroachment of government.

Additionally, the 1978 law gives immunity to telecom companies when they comply with legal wiretapping. Why they want additional immunity is beyond me.

If what they did was legal, they have nothing to fear.

Or is it that some people want to put the profits of the telecoms ahean of the safety of Americans?

It's very confusing. The President wanted the new law because the lives of Americans were at stake. The President said he would veto the law if it didn't give telecom companies immunity to lawsuits. So, if we take the President'as claims at face value, he is arguing that the profits of ATT, Verizon, etc. are more important than the lives of Americans.

We care more about the phone companies than we do about you! Now that is something I want to see the Republicans campaign on in the fall.
