Just for Some Perspective . . .

As the invaluable Newsbusters notes, many U.S. cities have a higher violent death rate than did Iraq in 2006.

But somehow, I doubt the Democrats are going to start advocating an immediate withdrawal from New Orleans.

Well, the Lancet reckons a figure of 600,000 dead Iraqis since the invasion. That's 200,000 per year for a population of 26,783,383. That's 746.73 for every 100,000 or about 9 times that of Washington DC in 1991.

The Lancet study was done using cluster sampling techniques that have been scientifically proven to give an accurate mortality rate in natural disasters. Those who did the study were researchers from the John Hopkins Medical School.
