Ivory Tower Nonsense

According to this piece, five deans of Ivy League journalism schools have somehow come to the conclusion that it was wrong for Robert Novak to disclose Valerie Plame's identity (even as they incorrectly label her a "covert" agent) -- even as they support The New York Times' decision to reveal classified national security information about a program that was successful in tracking terrorists who want us dead.

Like a good portion of the MSM, the deans argue that little substantial harm was caused by the Times' revelations.

But as the linked piece notes,

The European Parliament just voted to demand European banks reveal the extent of their cooperation in the American war on terrorism. The Belgium prime minister has launched an investigation into the matter. Will these events undercut efforts to track terrorist financing? It’s a very real possibility.

Those sound like pretty important ramifications to me. What's more, Hugh Hewitt posts congressional testimony from Stuart Levey, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, U.S. Department of the Treasury, who
has testified before Congress about the very real damage the disclosures have caused.

It's quite amazing -- and disheartening -- that the deans of supposedly premier journalism schools would be either so ignorant or so careless with the facts and heedless of the truth. But it's not surprising . . . and ends up revealing quite a lot about why the elite MSM is despised for its arrogance, and held in such low esteem by such a substantial portion of the American people.

Thanks for all you level headed delisional right wingers that watch FoxNews, and listen to Hugh Hewitt!

I'm glad you all are posting, I stopped reading most of dheads tripe long ago. He should just get a life and go wallow over with the Kosmonauts. Then they can all agree that Valerie Plame was the key, and SWIFT, and transnational phone calls were already known by everyone anyway. Hypos.

Carol dissembles, "even as they incorrectly label her a 'covert' agent..."

Whether or not Valerie Plame was a covert agent is a legal question. As Dittohead correctly pointed out, this claim has already been adjudicated in the Scooter Libby case and Judge David Tatel found that Plame was covert*. Moreover, this ruling has been discussed on Carol's blog, so it would be difficult for Carol to play the "poor ignorant me" card.

Here is an excerpt of Judge Tatel's ruling, "As to the leaks' harmfulness, although the record omits specifics about Plame's work, it appears to confirm, as alleged in the public record and reported in the press, that she worked for the CIA in some unusual capacity relating to counterproliferation. Addressing deficiencies of proof regarding the Intelligence Identities Protection Act, the special counsel refers to Plame as 'a person whose identity the CIA was making specific efforts to conceal and who had carried out covert work overseas within the last 5 years' — representations I trust the special counsel would not make without support."

Cliff, SueK, R Platt, etc. Carol will never learn to stop lying if you keep enabling her. Carol will just keep dishing out the plates of poo to all y'all and keep telling you it's Boston Creme Pie. Yum, yum tasty poo.

Twister,

I would completely ignore all of your posts if weren't for the occasional nugget like this:

"...Carol will just keep dishing out the plates of poo to all y'all and keep telling you it's Boston Creme Pie. Yum, yum tasty poo."

That is funny! Gross, but funny!

>>The lawsuit accuses Cheney, Libby, Rove and 10 unnamed administration officials or political operatives of putting the Wilsons and their children's lives at risk by exposing Plame.>>

Interesting. I think they're going to get fried, but time will tell. Like in the OJ trial, there's stuff that can be done in one venue that can't be done in another. Guess we'll see....
