A Letter from Ahmadinejad

Never doubt that Iran's leader understands the United Nations and the mentality of many of its members. Sending a letter to President Bush was a canny move.

It's designed to put the pressure on Washington -- so that, if the US declines to negotiate one-on-one with an Islamofascist government that's threatening world peace by ignoring UN mandates and developing nuclear weapons, it's nonetheless America (not Iran) that's painted as the "bad guy." He's gambling that the UN diplomats and many other so-called proponents of "peace" would rather see UN prestige diminished still further so long as it's a way to postpone any kind of "judgment day," when decisions about real sanctions on Iran have to be made.

Sad to say, it may be a safe bet.

This might be the start of the `Munich moment' I've been expecting...a phoney arrangement that delivers `peace in out time' while allowing Iran a couple of years to beef up their military and their nuclear arsenal.

Will Bush go for it, I wonder? Will we see him walking down the steps of Air Force One with an umbrella in hand?
