DeLay's Resignation
So former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is going to resign. No doubt it's a loss for Republicans from a long-term perspective (although, as John McIntyre points out over at Real Clear Politics it's a short term political plus) . . . Democrats hated DeLay for good reason -- he was extremely good at his job.
There's been a lot of schadenfreude coming from liberals, on the radio and elsewhere. I've heard some openly asserting that the resignation comes because DeLay is going to be implicated in the Abramoff scandal.
Those declarations are ridiculously premature. If DeLay is, indeed, implicated in illegality, then he's right to go now, as I noted here. But it's far from clear that's the case -- and if he's been, essentially, driven from office on the strength of spurious accusations from his political adversaries and from Ronnie Earle (the ridiculously partisan prosecutor)-- coupled with unfriendly MSM press coverage -- there will be a lot of black eyes for the press and for the Democrats once he's vindicated.
We shall see.

Vindicated? Ha. Three men closest to him were running an influence-peddling operation out of his office -- THE HOUSE MAJORITY LEADER'S OFFICE, NO LESS -- and you think there's a chance he's innocent?
Oh Carol, I know you are not that naive. And your readers are not that stupid.
And schadenfreude? Yes. It is the exact same strain of schadenfreude that DeLay and his buddies toasted (literally, with cases of champagne) on the day of the Clinton deposition which as we all know was one of DeLay's biggest achievements.
Just remember that when he heads to federal prison that he will be lying in a bed of his own making.
