Here's an Idea
Read this piece from The Financial Times on conservatives' discontent with Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers.
Here's a remarkable passage:
But other Senate Democrats, who have complained about Mr Bush's record of appointing close allies to important positions, hinted they might make his “cronyism” an issue in her confirmation hearings. They also signalled their intention to press the White House for documents she wrote while working there.
Surely the President predicted this response. And must think Harriet Miers is a good enough choice that he's willing to put up with this garbage.
But perhaps President Bush should let the Democrats know that, if this nominee is a "problem" for them, he'd be all too willing to replace her with another. He just wouldn't guarantee it'd be someone more to their liking.

Aw, Carol, don't worry too much. I'm sure that the Democrats are just suffering from a small knee jerk reaction. Bill Frist said Ms. Miers's nomination is the result of a "bipartisan and inclusive consultation process." Harry Reid is happy and Shumer and Leahy are tentatively on board.
The President made an unexpected turn towards moderation with this pick. We should all salute his statesmanship.
