Carol Platt Liebau: Not So Fast . . .

Not So Fast . . .

In what seems to be an exercise in wishful thinking, this Washington Post piece speculates that "Katrina Darkens the Outlook for Incumbents."

Not so fast. Yes, the public is clearly in an anxious and restive mood. But for Democrats to be able to capitalize on that fact, they have to put forth some kind of alternative to Republican policies, a la the Contract With America. Instead, all they've done is engage in politicized fingerpointing in the wake of Katrina, to the point where they're refusing to participate in a Congressional invesgiation of the federal government's response. And all their party chairman has to offer is a little drive-by race-baiting.

No, even more than the Republicans, the Democrats seem incapable of actually understanding the mindset of the vast majority of the American public. It was instructive this morning when Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) asserted (while sitting for a sloppy-wet-kiss of an interview with George Stephanopoulos) that the American people's incredible generosity sprang from the fact that we were "ashamed" (his word) of the governmental response to Katrina.

Not so. The private donations and support flowed from compassion, concern and empathy. If one of the Democratic Party's brightest young stars can't identify the source of America's selflessness, then what hope is there for the rest of them?

In the end, the American people know that terrorist threats still confront them. And I believe that they will choose the party that intends to confront the threats head on, rather than the party that asserts it can "care" more about the clean-up after a terrorist attack.

What else would you expect a blatantly biased comPost story to say. They cannot avoid bashing the GOP as they all belong to the DNC. After what I have seen over the last few years the daily rags have become just that rags that have to resort to blatant lieing and gross equivocating if the facts don't fit their bash Bush format.

Need I say more as we see the level of competent intelligence The comPost's supporters bring to the debate.I an smoking a fine cigar flavored with a dose of reality not DU and Kos conspiracies and stink bombs,no wonder the DNC has lost so many recent elections if fiscal conservatives had not voted for Perot in large numbers Clinton would never have touched office and if Nixon had not been a paranoid idiot neither would have Carter.
