Oh, Baby!
New research reveals new evidence of crying by unborn babies as young as 28 weeks. Just more evidence that what's in the womb is a "baby," not a "fetus."
And that's why it's heartening to read that Ohio laws requiring face-to-face pre-abortion counseling and more meaningful parently consent have been upheld.

rzafft....
There is alot of differnce between "life and death" decisions and "selective" abortions.
As a mother of twin girls who were born at 26 weeks gestation, I can tell you with mathematical certainty that 26 weekers are babies and they do feel pain and cry.
rzafft--I do not agree that an abortion would be required to save a woman's life at 28 weeks. 28 weekers are viable outside the womb and the mother can receive the steroids which will improve the baby's lung functioning. Medicine no longer requires that kind of false hypothetical. In your either/or, I choose both.
Just to clarify, Ken, by the 28th week a baby is in the third trimester. Couple this with the question that rzafft actually asked, and it is fairly clear this has absolutely nothing to do with selective abortions.
Nice try at changing the debate.
Ruth Anne, are you actually claiming that there is never a case where an abortion in the 28th week could be medically justified as a life-saving decision? (I ask because this is precisely the claim made by the US Congress.) If you are not making this claim then your answer to rzafft is less than complete.
Mr. Twister--
That is what I am claiming. Never justified at the 28th week, or ever, for my money. As a Catholic, I would gladly sacrifice my life for the life of an in-utero child. My husband knows this and should act accordingly. And, as I said, at 28 weeks, [viability is now somewhere around 23-24 weeks], this is no longer medically required. I am not a medical expert, but I'm supposing that a 28-week life threatening situation would either be pre-eclampsia or a cancer. Pre-eclampsia is "cured" by delivery and doctors are getting quite good at prolonging gestation for the baby, but delivering when required. With a cancer, delaying treatment might cost the mother her life. But then again it might not. I know I'm hard line on this and it's simply what I believe. Others in this actual situation might legally choose otherwise. That's between them and God.
What about all the black people in New Orleans that you KILLED. They were older than 28 weeks weren't they??? or are they, as Barbara Bush says' "better off"...
