Soundtracks for Sex

As this article points out, a new study shows that teens listening to music with sexual and degrading lyrics are more likely to have sex sooner than teens who don't hear such music.

This is being treated like news - but it shouldn't be. There are other, older studies that reach essentially the same conclusion. And for those who argue that they just listen for the "melody" or the "beat" -- well, there's evidence that the emotions elicited by such mediums likewise render the listener more susceptible to the messages being conveyed by the words.

It's hard to overestimate just how vulgar and ugly some lyrics are (see this and this). It shouldn't take an academic study to convince people that listening to this trash is neither healthy nor good.

Anything Goes Cole Porter Lyrics Nov 1934
"Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four-letter words,
Writing prose, Anything Goes."

Either way wile, emersion in such notions eases the transition for those who wouldn't normally without the exposure. Certainly the young have urges, but an environment that caters to indulging those urges serves to alter their notions of how to deal with the urges.

editor has a problem distinguishing between good and evil. Just because two people are shooting at each other, doesn't meant they are equally evil. One may be a cop shooting at a murderer who is trying to avoid capture by shooting at the cop. In the Middle East, to which I assume is what this poor sap is referring, I would love to hear why he is so confused as to which side might be "the bad guys". Seems obvious to any rational person paying attention.
