Carol Platt Liebau: Fight to the Finish?

Fight to the Finish?

Israeli Prime Minister Olmert says Israel won't stop fighting until Hezbollah is disarmed. Good for him -- it's about time.

In any case, it's also good for the U.S. Not only is Hezbollah defeated, but Iran, too would be put in its place -- or, perhaps, more, if the Israelis really decided to do this thing up right and take out their nukes.

The fact is that Israel could afford to play push-push back with its enemies while they were still technologically unadvanced. But Israeli defense expert Yoni reports that Hezbollah has weapons capable of reaching way into Israel, and that's somethign the Israelis simply can't tolerate.

Carol,

What an absolute joke. Bush hasn't been able to contol Baghdad after three and a half years and you already have Iran defeated.

You sound exactly like Wolfowitz with his crazy neocon plans and knuckle-headed predictions of easy victory.

I think Carol was postulating that a "finish" would be good for the US. I didn't read it as a fait accompli.

We're going to have to draft Carol (and Winston, the IED-sniffing pooch, too) if we're to win the looming regional war she's jonesing for.

Everybody contributes in their own manner, well almost everybody, Ditto and Duke.

Carol is our herald - Blowing the Shoffar (Jewish bugle) and pointing to the enemy. Some of us are too old and crippled to get back into uniform. We fight with our keybords. But we all must fight.

We are in a fight for the survival of our society - and as we said back in the 60's

You're either part of the solution, or you'e part of the problem. Pick a side.

You and Our Great Leader just luuuuuv to reduce everything to a binary choice, don't you? "You're either with us, or against us." Whatever.

Tell me, Floblog, how your keystrokes help "fight"?

And Hoity needs to put down the bugle. Our cavalry already has its hands full from too many buglers and too few riders.

There is an excellant article on rushlimbaugh.com about this very topic. It is from December of 2001, old, but stil pertinent to today. Here is an excerpt:

"Since 1948, Israel has been forced to fight 4 wars with the hostile nations surrounding her. Despite defeating her enemies on the battlefield, the international community has never permitted Israel to completely destroy any of these regimes - none of which are democracies. They've always been left largely in tact, free to start or support another war, including the current terrorist war now being waged against Israel's citizens. And between wars, Israel's enemies have convinced the world, including the U.S., that her borders and security are not only legitimate subjects of constant negotiations, but that Israel's refusal to accept most, if not all, of her enemies' demands is an obstacle to peace. "

He accuratly states my position on war. We must totally anhiliate our enemy, they must be stripped of all ability to wage war against us ever again and we must not stop until all of our enemies are defeated.

An amazing turn of events, I remember only seven years ago under Clinton, the biggest worry was when and where one would retire early after making a fortune. Now under Bush's leadership, if one could call it theat, we are in survival for our very own existence.

How sad! Heck of a job.

Amber,

And here is why Limbaugh is an idiot.

In the post-September 11, 2001 era, using military prowess to cow and pacify Arab defiance and anger has become a common tool of the US and Israel. That has emerged as the first rule of that era. Bush spelled that out in his doctrine of preemption and regime-change even before he invaded Iraq. The military campaign in Iraq was driven by the desire to create "shock and awe", which was aimed at nipping in the bud any aspirations of the Iraqi military to confront or defy the American forces through the use of overwhelming power.

However, the Arab world - or Muslim world, to be precise, because the same thing is also happening in Afghanistan - like the US, is operating under a different rule of the post-September 11 era. This is the second rule of that era. It states that the use of awe-inspiring power begets equally devastating confrontation and resistance.

The school yard bully always had a coterie surrounding him, or her; little sycophants eagerly awaiting their leader's signal. Carol needs no gang. We either stand up to the school yard bullies or prepare for "submission to a global Islamic caliphate or death." Simple as that. If I choose to stand up does that make me "jonesing" for a regional war?

Ditto - I earned the right to say what I say in an American Uniform. I also earned your right to spout your silliness.

Carol draws attention to the problems in our society and shows the courage to continue this stentorian voice in the face of what to some might be withering criticism. I admire her chutzpah.

I write because I can no longer carry a weapon. As Yeats said: "I will not go softly into the good night". I will continue blogging, commenting and teaching as long as I have the energy.

Flom,

You probably meant to address Duke, not me.

Anyway, Carol is a GOP talking points broadcaster. She picks biased articles. Always praises the right and always blames and insults the left. Just another political talking head, spinning and fabricating the truth.

Yes, that was me, Flomblow.

And as Dittohead has pointed out, Carol selects slanted pieces to bolster here slanted views, which always focus on concocted "travesties," many of which were caused by her and her ilk.

Where's the courage in that?

Flomblog, thanks for keeping up the good fight,
you're right about, "Like a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." I've had it with some of these
knuckeheads! Carol dosen't
deserve this, but I guess it's the price of free speech, even if it's paid for with the blood of our
volunteer soldiers.
I had a silly idea, but soon realized that it might not be wise. My idea
was for the majority of the
reasonable bloggers on this
site to pledge to completely ignore the few nut-cases and maybe we could shun them out, but I don't think it will work, and I know I'll be rebuked for the suggestion. Just a thought though.

Cliff, I did that a long time ago. Peridoically I make the mistake of not reading the name of the commenter, but for the most part, I just read on by when I see their name.
Don't stop commenting, though, I read rational posts that are not insult filled. I am embarassed that Carol would have to read such insulting things on a blog she writes. There is only one tiny little add on the sight, this is not rightwing news or the daily kos. If this were the NYT she would be able to edit the responses and pick what she wants to put out. Some of the posters comment so frequently, they really should do a spin off blog and just comment on Carol there.

A call to all reasonable people on this blog, and no
I don't mean just conservatives, I mean liberals also. We know who we are, and without any more talk about it, let's actively shut out and ignore the obnoxious ones. We know who they are as well. Yes, they will try to hog the bandwidth, but together we might shut their nasty tone down.

The only "just war" is one that is fought to a finish. Israel has not been able to finally and totally defeat its enemies for five decades for one reason and one reason only - its enemies in the West. It needs to wage real, just war and triumph. So does Bush in Iraq. No more talk of "civilian casualties". All targets are judged only by whether their destruction will make us (US or Israel) safer or not. It is the Muslim cowards who hide behind children and women. They are responsible for all civilian deaths. We must be responsible only for victory.

While George has been poking his stick in the Iraqi hornet's nest...

Russia and China have responded to America’s increased regional presence by developing the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The organization groups China, Russia, and four of the Central Asian republics --Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. On April 15 2006, China’s Xinhua news agency announced that Iran had been invited to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

As the great powers battle for influence in Central Asia, today, it is still Russia that is the Central Asian republics’ main partner.

How sad! That you can't grasp the IFO: It was that Clinton's biggest worry WAS when and where one would retire early after making a fortune that THIS HAS BECOME BUSH'S PROBLEM.

Yeesh.

All these things were problems under Clinton, and the signs were there, if you just LOOK.

The first WTC bombing, the Embassy, Mogadishu, the Cole.

OBL himself has stated that it was Clinton's LAME response to those Marines being killed (Run Away!! Run Away!!) that made him believe that America was indeed Mao's "paper tiger", and he could attack with impunity.

So, if Clinton had just had some BALLs in the first damned place, then
a) 3000 people would still be alive
b) Saddam probably would still be in power

Geez. As Churchill said:
"Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most times he will pick himself up and carry on..."

Just DETERMINED to saunter on, aren't you?

OH,

3000 died under Bush's watch not Clinton's. If you want to blame a president it would be Reagan for funding and training bin Laden.

When Clinton went after bin Laden, Republicans screamed "wag-the-dog" and refused to rally around the president and the threat. They were sure lying about sex was the biggest threat to America.

Al-Qaeda is a threat but they are not a state, don't have an army. In reality they are a lose group with an idealogy. You can't have a military war against an ideaology but Bush pretends, he can.

Cliff, yes I served 8 years and my husband is on year 24. He is in Iraq now while I take care of our kids. I loved every minute I was wearing the uniform. My husband is about ready to start a new carreer, this one has been very long. I think military service changes people and their view of war. I take a much stronger stance than I would have before I served, partly because I am a mom who will do whatever it takes to protect her children, but I think the army had a ton to do with it. My brother was also in the army. He was a West Pointer, with honors. We all still love the respect and the structure of the military, I miss it.

I agree. I believe we are coming to the point where it is time (long past time) where one side must utterly destroy the other side. There's no other historical precedence for determined, warring factions to make peace.

Let the winner determine the terms of peace.

By the way, before anyone accuses me of advocating genocide, when I refer to "utterly destroying one side", I'm NOT talking about general populations. I'm talking about military and political victory. Sadly, the military victory will have to be so devestating that the general population will become resigned to surrender, rejecting the ideals that have brought them into this war.
