Carol Platt Liebau: Dumb or Delusional

Dumb or Delusional

It's apparently hard for Valerie Plame and Joseph Wilson to relinquish the spotlight -- so now, they plan to keep it shining brightly by suing Vice president Cheney, Karl Rove, Lewis Libby and 10 others for conducting a "whispering campaign" that hurt Plame's career.

Only two things can explain this decision: Either they're dumb, and they don't understand what this lawsuit could mean for them; or they're delusional -- and they've really convinced themselves that they've been mistreated.

First, it's hard to believe that Valerie Plame was a covert agent under the law, especially since Patrick Fitzgerald declined to prosecute anyone for "outing" her, despite earlier statements that suggested this was very much on his mind. And, of course, there are inconvenient facts like these (others at the CIA denying that Plame was "covert" at all).

Second, no one yet has shown that anyone knowingly or negligently said anything about Valerie Plame that was, in fact, untrue. And barring evidence of something like that, it seems hard to argue that Plame's entitled to compensation because someone whistle-blew about her machinations to send her husband to Niger -- and, as a result, her career was damaged.

There's likewise a case to be made that the Plame/Wilson's own behavior -- like Wilson's own politicking and untrue NY Times op/ed -- contributed to Plame's work problems, and judging from the celebrity-Vanity-Fair-cover-spread life they've been living, it's not going to be that easy to prove they've been badly damaged.

Strategically, it strikes me as a very bad move for Plame/Wilson and the left. They've bled most of the potentially embarrassing information from Rove, et. al -- now it's Rove et al.'s turn to find out a few questions of their own: How, exactly, did Plame arrange for Wilson to go to Niger? Who else in the CIA was involved, and in what capacity? Of course, the list of questions goes on, and could, potentially, be quite revealing on many fronts.

What's more, it's just one more opportunity to drive home the fact that Joe Wilson is, in fact, a liar from start to finish.

It's true: They've got to be either dumb or delusional to open this can of worms.

Carol, they may be delusional or dumb. But my money's on opportunistic.

They have a book to sell. A lot of the oomph (realized in money from a book and speeches) got deflated when Fitz announced he would not seek indictments against key players.

They are thinking now, with that angle gone, how best to keep us in the news? I know! A lawsuit!

Honestly, I'm unimpressed with both of them. I am very impressed with you, Carol.

>> This case, if it comes to trial, will flush out real quick the answer to whether or not "Miss Plame" was covert or not.>>

Well, we can hope. However, the CIA apparently refused to testify when Fitzpatrick wanted their testimony, so can a civil suit lawyer suceed here?

So...why are you here? do you frequent many blogs you consider authored by delusionary individuals, or is Carol special in some way?

Ditto:

You are so funny!

"... No, Joe Wilson did not lie, everything he said has proven to be true. Saddam never bought yellow-cake. ..."

You seem to be saying that EVERYTHING Joe Wilson said has been PROVEN true.

That. Is. Laughable.

But maybe your trying to say that "Saddam never bought yellow-cake" is EVERYTHING Joe Wilson said.

Who knows?

You're so funny!

Let me just interrupt this serious and in-depth discussion for a moment.

I could say lots about Carol's post, but I just want to focus on one line she uses:

Strategically, it strikes me as a very bad move for Plame/Wilson and the left.

Carol comes across here as somewhat objective and studious, as though she has put a great deal of thought into this issue. It gives the impression that she is taking an impartial view.

However, I would contend that if anyone ever did a detailed search on this site, you would never find any reference to a leftist strategy that Carol thinks was a good move.

Therefore, she is merely being a right-wing flag waver rather than being a serious commentator.

Even the Kossacks are not backward in criticising the Democratic party. That is the difference between the American Left and the American Right - the Left is trying to be objective while the Right is, well, propagandising.

Including Carol.

So...you're saying that the suit is a leftist political move rather than simply a personal suit?

Carol keeps regurgitating the same old poo for her chicklets in saying, "it's hard to believe that Valerie Plame was a covert agent under the law..."

Whether or not Valerie Plame was a covert agent is a legal question. This claim has already been adjudicated in the Scooter Libby case and Judge David Tatel found that Plame was covert.

Gosh, the sole judge who actually looked at the evidence had no trouble believing Valerie Plame was covert. Just Carol and her poo swilling horde seem to lack sufficient imagination.

Carol calls Joe Wilson a liar, yet she is the liar.

And the claws of jealousy suddenly pop out when she notes Valerie Plame's "celebrity-Vanity-Fair-cover-spread life."

Why should she? Which lefty strategy would anyone consider a "good move". Better yet, IS there a lefty strategy?

Thankyou Marshall, I'm glad you agree with me that Carol's choice of words were misleading.

Codger,

You are so obsessed with your partisan fanaticism that you fail to see the original act of outing a covert CIA agent as one of aggression against the United States, an act which illustrates the "whatever it takes" approach Our Great Leader and his Gestapo took to shove this deadly boondoggle down our throats.
