Is NY Getting the Shaft?

Hugh Hewitt says yes. John Hawkins marshals some competing facts to reach the opposite conclusion.

But in the end, I've got to agree with Rich Lowry: The cuts are, indeed, "otherworldly." And most deadly of all, at least in politics, they look bad.

I disagree. I think that the rest of the US is sick of states taking money under false pretenses. The government layed out exactly why NY is not getting the funding. I live in MN, we have 1 border where terrorists have entered the country and a major port. We too are being funded at lower levels than some would like (1/3 of NY). It is significantly easier for a terrorist cell to enter the US from the Canadian or Mexican border and begin setting up for an attack somewhere. They may not plan on attacking MN, NY looks like a much nicer target, but that is where terrorists have historically begun their plans. My point is I, as are many people, am sick of the elitest attitude of NY and CA. I am sick of states placing their wants above the needs of the nation. LA for example said that MS would be stealing if they took any of the Katrina relief aid. I also think it is disingenuous for people in NYC to cry out at the injustice of the distribution of funds to protect their city when they also do not want the federal government to take any security measures becuase it may violate their privacy. Privacy is not a constitutional right, and if you want privacy, then be careful.
