Carol Platt Liebau: Way Out of Touch

Way Out of Touch

Up in New York, this "writer," (a professor -- anyone surprised?) concedes that Hollywood may be out of touch with "popular taste," but it's "in touch with real life in America."

Here's how he summarizes the movies that supposedly speak so accurately in our time:

"Crash" examines the racism in all segments of this society; "Munich" speaks to the futility of the violence in the Middle East; "Brokeback Mountain" focuses on the pressures faced by those in the sexual minority; "Good Night, and Good Luck" puts into historical perspective one of the most shameful eras in American history, and "Capote" reveals one of the country's most famous writers: brilliant, opportunistic and gay.

That may be the "reality that "blue state America" sees. For the rest of us, things look much different.

It will be interesting to see what the Oscar ratings are this year.

I remember when Hollywood meant entertainment. Samuel Goldwyn is reportedly to have said if you want to send a message use a telegram.

Yep, I remember back in '67 when The Heat of the Night won best picture. Those were the good old days of entertainment without the message.

BTW that Pimp song Carol was so enamored of won Best Song.

Even though Brokeback Mountain won for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director, it just lost to Crash as Best Picture.

Woo-hoo we are saved from a week or more of hearing Carol whine about Hollywood, out-of-touchedness, and the gay agenda.

Twisted Crashed Hollywood is not a source of amusement but of sadness because of the death of entertainment.

I saw CRASH and thought it was a very good movie.
