So Democrats won the govenors' races in New Jersey and Virginia. Before the national press gets too excited, it should note this quote from the linked story: "Most voters said President Bush was not a factor in their choices Tuesday, according to the survey conducted Tuesday by the AP and its polling partner, Ipsos."
Just remember, as I noted here this morning: Democrats won Virginia and New Jersey in 2001. The next year, Republicans maintained control of the House and took formerly Democratic Senate seats in Missouri, Minnesota and Georgia.
As for the California initiatives, it's clear that at least two won't pass. It's still too early to know of the fate of Props. 73 (parental notification) and 75 (paycheck protection). Here's hoping Arnold pulls them out; otherwise, it will be abundantly clear that California is truly owned -- lock, stock & barrel -- by unions who care about nothing except feathering their own nests.

Too much energy expended over Harriet Miers and the Dems win?
Congratulations for your attempt to make lemonade out of the downpour of lemons on your front lawn yesterday Carol.
If this isn't a clear rejection of failed republican leadership I don't know what is. You'll be attempting the same spin when you lose majorities in congress next year.
As for Governor muscle-head, He has no mandate and is losing political capital by the second.
So the question is, butter or cream cheese on your toast?
"St. Paul is Exhibit A of the damage the president's weak political standing is having on his allies," says Larry Jacobs, director of the University of Minnesota's Center for the Study of Politics and Governance. Both candidates, he notes, are moderate Democrats, and there's little difference between their platforms. "The only difference is one has a George W. mask on and the other one doesn't." -- Christian Science Monitor
IMUS: Would you just answer my question, would you like [President Bush] to come to Arizona and cut campaign commercials and run them on those TV stations everywhere?
REP. HAYWORTH: In a word, no. At this time.
IMUS: That's being honest. J.D. Hayworth here on the "Imus in the morning" program.
-- US Rep. J.D Hayworth (R) AZ on Imus this morning 11/9/2005.
The downpour of lemons, lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet. But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.
