Here is an excellent piece on Harvard's disgraceful grovelling to the gender and diversity gods.
As author Heather McDonald points out, if there were loads of female academics out there who were just as qualified and as willing to work as hard as men, wouldn't Harvard -- or Princeton, or Yale, or any of the thousands of colleges and universities, all with "outreach" programs -- have scooped them up by now? And if they aren't as qualified, why are they being given special preference?
The new outreach efforts by Harvard only guarantee it more trouble. Part of the new regime includes "climate surveys" of faculty to be conducted by the university in order to ascertain whether female professors feel “personally safe, listened to, valued.”
Guess what result such surveys are likely to yield? After all, why would an inferior scholar, hired primarily because of her gender, be particularly "listened to" or "valued"? Why should she be?
PS: Of course, a lot of this is a result of Lawrence Summers' remarks last January --which gave the otherwise irrelevant feminists something to scream bloody murder over. There were crazies calling for Summers to be fired, but recent reports are that alumni are satisfied with him. Now they tell us -- now that the feminist "outreach" boondoggle's been fully funded.
