Michael Yon reports that the Iraqi Islamic Party has declared that Al Qaeda is defeated in Iraq.

Is that why there hasn't been any news, bad or good, out of Iraq!
Of course, this does not mean there will be no more sensational attacks from the terrorists. That would be like saying there will be no more crime in New York City. But it does mean that Al Qaeda has miserably failed to achieve their main goal: to establish a Taliban-style government in Iraq.
They failed for several key reasons:
- Al Qaeda failed to defeat America militarily.
- Al Qaeda failed to force America to prematurely withdraw its forces from Iraq.
- Al Qaeda failed to keep Iraqi citizens from holding free and fair elections.
- Al Qaeda failed to win the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens.
-- ALL thanks to the American military!
- America succeeded in defeating Sadaam Hussein's military machine.
- America succeeded in helping Iraqi citizens freely elect government officials.
- America succeeded in securing the vast majority of Iraq from terrorist control.
- America succeeded in forging political cooperation among various religious and ethnic groups in Iraq.
- America succeeded in convincing the Iraqi citizens that they did not have to cower under the threat of Al Qaeda.
- America succeeded in winning the hearts and minds of Iraqi citizens.
- America succeeded in helping Iraqi forces stand up on their own.
It wasn't easy. It didn't happen over night. There were several mistakes and missteps. But America has definitely defeated Al Qaeda in Iraq!
Certainly, Al Qaeda will continue to cause problems in Iraq and around the world. But they no longer have the population of Iraq living in fear. They no longer are able to commit horrible atrocities and fade safely back into the general population. Now it is the Iraqis themselves who are hunting down and destroying Al Qaeda in Iraq.
There is much work to be done. But the crucial battle for the soul of Iraq is over and Al Qaeda lost!
... and their allies in America - the Democrats - lost, too!
