Doubts About Huckabee

Conservatives who have been insisting that Mike Huckabee is the answer to their prayers should check out this piece by John Fund.

Along with pointing out that Huckabee is far from being an economic conservative, there is this very disturbing observation from a Huckabee backer:

Rick Scarborough, a pastor who heads Vision America, attended seminary with Mr. Huckabee and is a strong backer. But, he acknowledges, "Mike has always sought the validation of elites."

For a Republican, this should be the kiss of death. No one who seeks the "validation of elites" will ever succeed at -- or even attempt -- conservative governance. There's simply too much criticism from the New York Times that must be endured.

You know who else hungrily seeks such validation? Justice Anthony Kennedy. And look what's happened to him.

My prayer is that Duncan Hunter will rise to the top so that we can hear more from him. "All things are possible, only believe."

Ah yes -- that old trick of ruling on behalf of the elites while pretending to be connected to the people. George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan mastered it well. For after all, THE ENTIRE PROGRAM of Republicanism is to crush and humiliate ordinary people, and no one better represents the elite then George W. Bush. Republicans have shown true genius in tricking large numbers of people into voting against their own economic interests. Which just demonstrates the sad and apparently universal principle of identification with the oppressor. Gramsci was right.

Carol,

It amuses me how you criticize the NYT, but then use one its articles to make a point.

I've noticed in the couple of years that I've been reading your blog that you seem to dislike the paper, but obviously keep reading it and referring to it.
