Congratulations to Al Gore

As Nobel peace prize winner, he certainly joins an august assemblage. Ha.

What says it all? That Jimmy Carter would win the prize, while Ronald Reagan still remains despised by the sort of people who hand it out. Who -- of the two of them -- did more to bring down the Soviet Union, eliminate nculear weapons and end the Cold War?

Not the Nobel peace prize winner.

There's really no surprise here. It was pretty much expected that the Nobel committee would award the peace prize to the Intergovernmental Panel On Climate Change and Al Gore.

And whether this prize finds itself listed with the dubious ones, like the one Kissenger received, or is placed alongside the ones received by Cordell Hull, Albert Schweitzer, and Mother Theresa, is a matter of time.

Besides the Camp David Accords, President Carter was awarded the Nobel "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development"

Had President Reagan done similar work, he very well may have received the award as well.
