Nooses -- the plot thickens

Apparently, Columbia has refused to release security videotapes relating to the hanging of a noose on a professor's door. The university now requires the police to obtain a court order.
Why?

One one level, the answer to why is pretty obvious. The University is fearful that they will not be comfortable with what the tapes will show. It could be pretty embarrassing for them, possibly one of their little liberal darlings doing this illiberal deed!
Update:
At 3 p.m. yesterday, after the Associated Press first reported on the college's footdragging, and with the subpoena in effect, Teachers College announced sweetly that "in the spirit of cooperation, we are giving [the police] everything."
Remember, it was the University that called in the police in the first place.
