Their True Colors

Democrats have refused to condemn Moveon.org's despicable attack on General Petraeus.

The next time Democrats accuse Republicans of challenging someone's "patriotism," let's remind everyone that it's their allies who smeared a four star general who has put his life on the line to protect America and his reputation on the line by undertaking to lead the military in Iraq when things were going poorly. His honor, of course, would prevent him from giving false and misleading testimony to Congress; how sad that Democrats would either ignore that last fact, or else can't understand it.

The very fact that Democrats feel forced to scramble to come up with a new political strategy on the war really says it all . . . to them, the war is simply a political matter, another area where it's appropriate to jockey for advantage.

Again, they can't seem to understand: Whether they like it or not, it's not just President Bush's war, or a Republican war. It's America's war -- and that's one fact they forget at their own risk.

I don't see the Republican's crying and condemning Freedom's Watch for running ads that mislead Americans by suggesting a link of the 9-11 attack to Iraq.

There was only one Republican, Sen McCain who condemned the swift boat lies and slander about Sen Kerry's service in Vietnam.

No Republicans condemned the attacks against decorated war veteran Sen Cleland.

No Republicans condemned Rep Jean Schmidt for calling decorated war veteran Congressman Murtha a coward.

No Republicans condemned the character assassination and false claims by Bush in 2000 of decorated war veteran Sen McCain.

This will not change. This country is irreparably dividend morally, spiritually, and politically. At the present time Iraq has more potential for reconciliation than does this society. At some point critical mass will occur and the results will probably be very ugly.

Hear, hear, rplat! This ugly mudslinging has to stop. Now we're into second-generation mudslinging. MoveOn slings mud at Mr. Petraeus, and now Ms. Liebau slings mud at Democrats for refusing to condemn MoveOn. What next? Somebody slinging mud at Ms. Liebau for slinging mud at the Democrats for refusing to condemn MoveOn for slinging mud at Mr. Petraeus? Where does it stop?

Earth to Carol seems to have it right. A lot of people are quite selective when it comes to condemning certain ads. If they are so upset about what Moveon has to say, where were they when these far more egregious and mendacious ads were broadcast.

And attacking this Moveon ad seems like an easy way of drawing attention away from our real problems. There are problems with General Petraus' testimony, as the ad points out. According to Newsweek, the Pentagon disagrees with Petraus.
