All in the Genes?
This piece from AFP suggests that political orientation may, to some extent, be hard-wired.

I was struck by the difference between the piece you link to and this piece from the LA Times presenting more details from the same study. The piece you cite tries to avoid controversy by leaving out two important details. First, when presented with a stimulus that was out of the ordinary, the anterior cingulate cortex of the liberals showed more activity than the same structure in the brains of the conservatives. In other words, when presented with a surprising stimulus, the liberals thought about it more than the conservatives. More importantly, their greater effort yielded positive results: they got the answers right a lot more often than the conservatives. The conservatives stuck to their guns even when they were wrong.
Both my parents voted for liberals then the liberal changed. Both my parents then voted for conservatives. I vote for conservatives. Genes or liberals gone wrong? Vicissitudinary again? Or liberals sent-off?
