Apologies if I missed this being all over the web. It was new to me tonight [hat tip: Birdie Bob]. This recent AP photo depicts an Iraqi boy seeking shelter behind the soldier, a member of the 82d Airborne Division. The boy, obviously frightened, is running to the safest spot he can find: this soldier who stands between him and danger.
It gives "human shield" a whole new meaning.
