Justice For Iraq

Saddam Hussein has been condemned to death -- which seems to me an appropriate verdict, given the outrageous cruelties perpetrated on his people.

Even so, the coverage of the verdict in the MSM is amazing. Take this piece in the Washington Post. On the one hand, we're told, some Iraqis are glad (obviously, those whose relatives were murdered by the bloodthirsty regime). On the other hand, we're informed, some are sad -- and the whole episode will probably result in nothing more than increased violence.

The careful absence of any judgment on the justice of the verdict is noteworthy -- as is the paucity of information about the atrocities for which Saddam was responsible.

Had Hitler been tried and executed, no doubt some people would have been sad about that, too. But that wouldn't justify such "on the one hand, on the other hand" coverage, would it?
