Our Frivolous Times
How nice. Today, the LA Times runs a cute little photo essay called "The Dapper Despot" about Saddam Hussein.
What a convenient way to minimize and infantilize a man who was once an enormous threat to world piece -- and an immensely evil dictator.
It's hard to imagine a similar feature having run 50 years ago comparing Hitler's and Stalin's moustaches.

Actually, I think teasing and trivializing a tyrant is a great way to knock him down and make him unfrightening. Whether the LA Times was that smart to intend that is another question.
Wouldn't it be better if he could have a speedy trial for just one or two of the most henious crimes, and then a speedier death penalty? Stop wasting time and money on the barbarian.
