Clearer and Clearer
If anyone had any doubts that the Democrats' determined opposition to control of the ports by a UAE company was anything more than grandstanding, Howard Dean's typically clumsy effort to capitalize on the issue should set them to rest.
Apparently, Dean excoriated "Republicans" for having a "pre-9/11 mind-set" on ensuring safety at U.S. entries. What foolishness. Whatever the merits of the opposition to the deal, clearly, Republicans (like this one, predictably lionized by the New York Times for his opposition to Bush) were in the forefront of it.
Doesn't Dean get how silly -- and opportunistic -- this makes him and his party look? Sure, they cherish the chance to get on the right side of national security, but by overplaying that hand, they reveal just how political and just how unprincipled their position really was.

What hand have the Democrats NOT overplayed in the last 5 to 7 years?
