It's Their Choice

What a disgrace Jesse Jackson is. He's never run for anything, never run anything, never been accountable for anything and never done anything besides race hustle (aside from engaging in highly questionable behavior both ethically and personally).

Yet he's criticizing the response to the hurricane.

Does he have any concept how widely he's disliked? How polarizing he is? And just how unhelpful to those he purports to care about his self-aggrandizing television appearances are?

Of course the good people of America will continue to give. But at the margins, there will be those who are appalled and turned off by Jackson's theatrics -- who will be tempted to do less than they otherwise would have.

So Jesse Jackson and all the other tragedy pimps have a choice: They can continue to promote themselves on TV, or they can hush up and try to get help to the people who need it. The question is who they care about more -- themselves or the suffering? I shudder to think of the answer.

Didn't Jesse Jackson mount a failed presidential campaign in 1984?

A quibble, no doubt. But you're right...he's never been elected to anything that's beholden to the public.

I don't like the Rev. Jackson. Never have.

There is no need, really, to start with the hysteria of calling people "race pimps" and "tragedy pimps" when you don't agree with them.

If you don't like Jackson, fine. Don't like him. But do not revert to hysterical name calling and labeling those of us who are appalled at the conditions our fellow Americans are suffering through.
