I'm not surprised at all. During my
college years (mid 70's) at a midwestern private university, white male applicants who applied for campus jobs (gardener,food service, etg) had their applications clearly marked "WM". The hiring of a white male required "white male approval" from management. My fiancee worked in a university office and showed me job applications were marked to indicate race.
