Craig Resigns
Senator Larry Craig has announced that he will do the right thing and resign.
Craig pleaded guilty to a crime; what's more, as most of his fellow Republicans acknowledged, his behavior was simply wrong. It's a sad end to a solid career, but it's worth pointing out that the Republicans' calls for Craig's resignation are a refreshing contrast to the Democratic attitude toward sex scandals in their own ranks, and liberals' tight embrace of those who behave inappropriately, indeed wrongly, when it comes to matters pertaining to sex.

Carol, now if Bill C had behaved like Larry C. Also how is Ted K today. Still having trouble with what to drink? Hypocrisy and the MSM let them get away with it. The MSM also know about hypocrisy don't they?
There's an old saw, whose precise wording I forget, but whose purport is that Democrats have sex scandals while Republicans have money scandals. There's a certain asymmetry in Carol's argument here: many Democrats simply don't regard sexual behavior as harshly as Republicans. There's no hypocrisy here; it's just a matter of different values. Republicans are welcome to their harsh standards, and even to judge politicians by their sexual behavior rather than their politics. I myself consider it all rather pointless.
However, one thing we can all agree upon is that money scandals are always bad, and on that count Republicans have been notably insouciant towards financial improprieties over the last decade. I am not arguing that Democrats are innocent of such improprieties; I suspect that there have been fewer Democratic financial shenanigans only because Democrats have had a harder time getting money (until just recently).
In any case, the Republican's lax attitude towards financial improprieties in their ranks definitely constitutes an ugly hypocrisy.
a refreshing contrast to the Democratic attitude toward sex scandals in their own ranks,
Any evidence of this? Or is this just another ad-hom noise-machine unprovable let's-use-this-somehow-to-blame-the-dems comment?
You're correct Carol . . . if Craig was a Democrat this would have produced many kudos and an enhanced probability of reelection.
I question the honesty here concerning the purity of the Rep party. Craig was suspected of having drug and sex parties with male pages back in 1982. The reason he resigned so quickly now (25 yrs later)is that he pleaded guilty. He likely figured this plea would be a hush deal and he'd go on being a republican Senator and recreational pervert.

Can you cite any examples of a Democratic Senator pleading guilty to a misdemeanor and as a consequence receiving many kudos and an enhanced probability of re-election?
