Carol Platt Liebau: The War? Or Single Motherhood?

The War? Or Single Motherhood?

Yesterday, the LA Times breathlessly informed us that "War wives at greater risk for post-partum depression."

Haven't we been through this before? Just like the stories trying to tie child abuse to troop deployment, isn't it more likely that the relevant variable isn't the fact that one's husband is deployed -- but rather, that the women left behind are, functionally, single parents?

Strikes me that the lefties who have defended single motherhood as nothing more than a "lifestyle choice" should try to explain why it's OK unless the circumstance is brought about by the fact that the fathers are at war.

They are just lonely?

Carol ignores any trace of human decency, so ridiculous and heartless.

They are depressed because they are worried and under stress from having a loved one in harms way. Too obvious, and inconvenient.

So much for Carol supporting the troops during memorial weekend.

The only direct or implied reference to "lonely" I could find was in your comment, ETC. Neither Carol nor her links did so.

What level of "human decency" would you ascribe to the commenter whose only apparent goal is to consistently and persistently assassinate the blogger's character (a tactic, by the way, that would get the commenter banned from many other blogs) rather than just debate her ideas?

Bachbone,

You seem to ignore what I stated, that depression stems from stress and concern of loved one in harms ways for long period of time.

Thanks for the rant anyway.
