Not Only "Counterproductive" but "Foolish"
The Washington Post quite rightly excoriates Nancy Pelosi's fumbling, bumbling embarrassing stab at serving as an adjunct secretary of state.
. . . advocating American political and religious liberty, free enterprise, limited government, military strength and traditional values.

Despite President Bush’s lie that Pelosi’s trip sent “mixed signals,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said during his briefing today, “I don’t think [the trip] necessarily complicates anything that we’re doing.”
As the rats jump ship....
The AP reports that Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) met with Syrian President Bashar Assad today in Damascus.
Commenting on Bush’s criticism, California Republican Darrell Issa said the president had failed to promote the necessary dialogue to resolve disagreements between the U.S. and Syria.
It is NOT the function of congressmen to engage in foreign policy. It doesn't matter what party the jerk is with. Censure, at least, is in order for all these arrogant buffoons.
As any 10th grader could tell you, sending "mixed signals" does not equal "...attempt[ing] to supplant the secretary of state when traveling abroad... that even the Democrat's house organs, The Washington Post and USA Today criticized Rep. Pelosi for trying. As WaPo put it, "...Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented Israel's position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr. Assad's words were mere propaganda..."
And just as not every Democrat is a leftist extremist like Rep. Pelosi (Sen. Lieberman, for example supports the President's Iraq policies), Rep. Issa may disagree with the president, but he wasn't trying to act as Secretary of State. In fact, according to the leftist Media Matters, the GOP members who accompanied Pelosi said, "...they made clear to Assad that they support Bush and were not representing the administration. But they said they felt it was important to maintain dialogue."
When even the fringe left media start criticizing Pelosi, you know she goofed badly.
Pelosi should stick to pushing cut and run legislation and leave foreign policy matters to those empowered by the Constitution to handle them. Even better, she should let Israel announce its own foreign policy.
Pelosi is nothing more than a bad joke!
It's a shame that the first female Speaker of the House has to be such an outright idiot.
Didn't Clinton appoint the first woman Attorney General and Surgeon General? In anycase, those libs were proven to be outright idiots as well.
