The Left-Wing View of Morality

This piece is an almost perfect encapsulation of the attitude that has underlain the sexualization of American culture. Setting aside the particulars of General Pace's remarks (and since when is someone not permitted to express what they believe to be right or wrong?), the author's approach is remarkably revealing.

What's remarkable is that the author sees moral objections to other people's sexual behavior as inherently unworthy of respect or discussion -- in fact, it's an "insult." The very concept of morality, in the author's view, is nothing more than a cloak for visceral, instinctive reactions.

This whole approach to sexual issues -- what business is it of yours if I'm not hurting anyone else? -- can have unfortunate consequences. After all, tarting little girls up like junior grade prostitutes may not hurt anyone else, but it hurts them. What's more, it ignores the negative externalities of certain types of sexual behaviors . . . on children, and on the tone of American culture in general.

I just read Leonard Pace's article that you linked to.

He doesn't say anything about "tarting little girls up like junior grade prostitutes".

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to compare the issue of homosexuality to those of little girls. Regardless of your attitude to the issue, little girls who are "tarted up" are probably still under the authority of their parents, so it's the parent's responsibility to instill proper values into them.

By contrast, practicing homosexuals are generally old enough to make their own decision about their sexuality. Yes it may hurt them, but they are responsible for their own acts.

Hi Carrol,
I just read your bio on your home page. What a great record of achievement for a young lady of 40!
And a happy belated birthday to you.

Having debated many of my liberal friends and having watched liberal politicians on TV since 1973 I have come to the conclusion that liberalism is a congenital malformation. Liberals are born without a CONSCIENCE and the void thus created is filled with hatred towards their fellow-humans who have that most important ingredient - morals. I refuse to call "liberals" liberals because after 33 years in America I am yet to see a "practicing liberal." They are all members of the TAX RACKET.

I have been a writer and thinker for many years and one of my hobbies is coining words and phrases - like WEAPONS OF MASS-DISTORTION which I gave away in a letter to Media Research on 1-30-2000. For Bill Clinton I created "THE 3-IN-ONE SNAKE OIL" because he has the mass-appeal of The Pied Piper of Hamlin, the indestructibility of Rasputin and the elusiveness of Houdini. "Javits syndrom" - two words that describe old and frail politicians like the late Jacob Javits and the current Senator Robert Byrd who refuse to quit their positions of power because they are afraid if they do, the sky will fall and all humans will perish!

So long as there is capitalism and the ability to tax-and-transfer OPM liberals will continue to thrive.

Sincerely,
drewmat

The point isn't that grown up gays are making their own sexual decisions and that the little girls aren't.

In fact, no one is "comparing" the two -- except to say that both reflect the left wing approach to sexual morality, which essentially holds that society as a whole has no right to express any notions of sexual morality.

So by that logic, the left wing should support pedophilia?

Are there any Left wingers around who publicly support it?

And if they don't, surely that is either a) A logical flaw in their belief system, or b) A logical flaw in your belief system about those on the left wing.

Carol in "Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell - Chapter 4 -Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct, nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary. More commonly, people who had incurred the displeasure of the Party simply disappeared and were never heard of again. One never had the smallest clue as to what had happened to them."
