Forcing America to Lose the War

Here is a Washington Post story about various efforts to send a message of retreat and defeat to America's enemies by passing resolutions -- non-binding in the Senate, and perhaps even binding in the House -- that would, as General Petraeus explained, embolden the enemy (even as it undermines the morale of our own fighting men and women).

Any resolution in the Senate will probably require 60 voters because of the likelihood of a filibuster; it's time, once again, to call Senator Mitch McConnell and explain that Republicans expect every effort to be made to prevent such a resolution from coming to the floor.

It's also time for some line-drawing. Let's be clear about who is on the side of victory, and who is on the side of defeat. If we retreat from Iraq as the Democrats (along with a few despicable Republicans) urge, it will obviously embolden the enemy, and inevitably lead to plans for further attacks on American shores.

Solid Republicans need to offer a resolution calling for victory against Al Qaeda, in Iraq and elsewhere. Let's see who signs on . . . and let's see whom we should hold accountable if, in the wake of a perceived American defeat in Iraq, terror once again reaches American shores.

It's remarkable that Democrats should be so totally unashamed that their political goals and objectives -- forcing national failure and defeat in Iraq -- coincide so perfectly with those of America's enemies.

Feel free also to contact Senator Warner, who is working with the Democrats to put forward a resolution. Phone: Phone: (202) 224-2023; Fax: (202) 224-6295; email.
