From the Horses' Mouths

Here is the Democrats' agenda, from their own mouths:

Democrats will press to get out of Iraq. They'll mount investigations into the Bush administration's record that could rival those of Presidents Nixon in Watergate and Clinton in the Monica Lewinsky affair. They'll push a boatload of social-welfare legislation, such as raising the minimum wage, that reflects their pent-up priorities, while blocking the Republican agenda on social issues such as gay marriage, abortion and religion.

The details are pretty sketchy. What, exactly, is the "Republican agenda" on gay marriage, abortion and religion that the Dems are going to block? Gay marriage amendments can't pass Congress as it is, there's no pending abortion legislation, and exactly what "religion" are they referring to?

Obviously, anything resembling a positive agenda is just a bunch of talking points strung together with little meaning and even less sense. But they are deadly serious about cutting and running in Iraq, and trying to exact retribution for the Clinton impeachment.

What a fabulous use of the people's representatives' time, especially in the middle of a war.

What gets me is that anytime some lib/Dem "presents" their "plan", it is never more than platitudes and ambiguous statements that can even match conservative goals in some cases, but never ever spells out in any way just how they intend to achieve them.

"I'm for peace!" Fine. Who isn't? So how do you intend to get there? What makes you think your plan will work? When has anything like it been tried and what is it's track record? They, and Kerry was the best at this, just expect you to believe they have the answer.

Thank you Carol, Marshall, and Cliff for the in-depth analysis of the Democratic agenda. Your insights on this is continue to be--as they have been in the past--underwhelming.

Cliff, the name of the party is the Democratic party, not the Democrat party. Sadly for you, this mistake is the least ignorant thing you have written in this thread.

Nevertheless it is a plan. I have heard a lot of pseudo-patriotic dronic, ad hominem attacks, and talking points in the past week from Rumsfeld and Bush but the facts bear out that the political careers of those in the House and Senate on the GOP side are more important than their allegiance the George W Bush.

Clinton was wrong to lie to the American people and with an instrument of investigation in place to bring him to task Congress used that instrument and impeachment was brought forth.

Equally, the run up to the war in Iraq has shown their is some question as to the reasoning behind the Iraq war and behind some of the powers that Bush has taken for himself not the least of which are his use of signing statements and the NSA warrantless wiretapping.

These matters deserve what out of political fear the GOP would not do and that is the job of the legislative branch, oversight of the executive branch.

For six and three quarters years the Bush administration has had a Congress fully in their camp and they have done nothing but watch as the most massive terror attack in history took place on American soil, trundled blindly into Iraq with too few troops, and devolve the Constitution into a laissez faire document with executive decisions done in violation of the Constitution, America's highest law.

Democrats deserve their chance to do it their way and if they fail you can be certain that the consequences will be grave. Your fear of the terrorists expressed in racist name calling and politcal bickering emboldens those who would serve the will of Hassan Nasrallah in more ways than you can imagine.

There is a change afoot on the global stage. No longer can America because of her military might and her ability to impoverish smaller nations which have the resources she craves through huge development and engineering contracts funded by the World Bank and US AID. Nations like Iran may have leaders that are "insane" by American standards but this is just the morning of the change that allows nations with the skill and the resources to get ahead to do so. Even if they have harsh and pathetic ideas like Iran does regarding Israel.

But America has dealt with worse devils than Ahmadinejad. Pinochet, Samoza, Suharto, Duvallier, Noriega, Trujillo, Pahlavi all in the name of oil and United Fruit and keeping the never satisfied bellies of tow headed Americans full and their eyes blind to their nation's crimes.

Cliff,

I would ask you to seek out an evangelical or two and ask them wqhat Bush has done for them? The GOP controls the Congress and they cannot get any of the religious bills passed? Does this mean that representatives and senators know these things would be political suicide? Even in a nation of 65 million evangelicals thier political voice with their party in power cannot get a bill passed in Congress regarding the sanctity of male female marriage.

If evangelicals wish to fix marriage they need to pass a bill outlawing straight divorce. I would posit the amount of abuse to women and children in marriages that has occurred in your home state in the past thirty days has done more to harm the lives of women and children than if gay marriage were allowed in every state.

"It is immoral, a grave sin, to turn a blind eye and judge another man's camp when your own camp is in disarray."--Pain, Terra Immortalis.

Oh now THERE'S a compelling argument to vote (D). They DESERVE it.

That's actually the way they've been carrying on since 1994 when they lost both houses of Congress for the first time in DECADES. They deserve it... why? Because they always had it? Sorry, that's as horrendous a rationale as I can imagine.

Then this: "if they fail you can be certain that the consequences will be grave"

I worry that the consequences could be grave either way, though I suspect I mean it in a more literal sense than Cavalor Epthith, resident of Dis, Hell, did.

Still, the question hasn't been answered, What DOES the democrat party stand for? Anyone?

From what I can tell, it stands for European-style, cradle-to-grave socialism. That's the way I see it in Democrats around here (Washington, DC).

Cav,

Nice rant. Try to make sense sometime. You've pretty much given more reason not to vote Dem. With your reasoning, the consequences would be dire indeed.
