Carol Platt Liebau: "Alice-in-Jihadland"

Sunday, July 02, 2006

With his customary wit and style, the amazing Mark Steyn tells you everything you need to know -- both about the flawed reasoning behind the Hamdan ruling itself, and the Supreme Court's liberal jurisprudence in general. Here's just one toothsome little sample:

The same kind of inspired jurisprudence conjuring trick that detected in the emanations of the penumbra how the Framers of the U..S Constitution cannily anticipated a need for partial-birth abortion and gay marriage has now effectively found a right to jihad -- or, if you're a female suicide bomber about to board an Israeli bus, a woman's right to Jews.

It is unbelievably sad how some Americans wish to become uncivilized and act with the same disregard for human rights and rule of law as the jihadists.

Very sad indeed.

It doesn't take much reading to discover the US is losing in Iraq because Bush ingnored winning hearts and minds. The British commander leading NATO in Afghanistan said the same.

Iraqis overwelmingly say Saddam was better than the ugly Americans and they want US forces to leave.

Heck of a job Bush, Bremmer and Rummy.

The point is not that some Americans want to act like a terrorist; they don't want to afford terrorists the legal protections enjoyed by non-terrorists. Otherwise, there is no disincentive to be a terrorist.

Moreover, the two sides of the Supreme Court case were disputing what rule of law required, not whether it applied.

The fallacy of the Stevens position can be shown as follows: assume the US governmnet wants to withdraw from that part of the Geneva Conventions that requires the US to apply the Conventions to terrorists. How would such a withdrawal be worded given Stevens' reading of the term "international".

Dittohead will no doubt provide more citations for the comments on Iraqi public opinion so that we can be as well informed.

I'm afraid you are simply being unrealistic. China and/or Europe is not going to continue to lend us a trillion a year so George can kill 3 billion muslims.

95% of the terrorist were created over the past three years as a result of Bush's failed policies.

Dang, it's great to have a smart feller like Mr. Dittohead to clue us all in on how things really are!

Like, George Bush wantin' to kill 3 billion Muslims! 3 BILLION!!Whoa! I didn't even know there was 3 billion Muslims in the whole world, much less that it was a FACT that George Bush wants to kill 'em ALL! Who knew that, huh? Mr. Dittohead, that's who!!

Wonder if the Iraqi government knows George Bush wants to kill 'em?! Guess he's bein' real sneaky-like with that plan. Even the New York Times ain't latched on to that one yet!

Boy, it's a good thing Mr. Dittohead is here to clue 'us in, huh?!

And before, I always figgered it was kinda tough knowin' even how many terrorists exactly there was out there. Figgered that was somethin' that would be real hard to pin down, you know? But now we know - thanks to Mr. Dittohead! - that however many there is, 95% of 'em got created in the last 3 years on account of Mr. Bush's policies!! Not 72%. Not 91%. Not 16.4%. Not 89.2%. But 95%!! Right on the nose. Man, how'd he KNOW that?!! Must have some sort of super ESP or somethin'. The dude jus' knows EVERYTHING real instinctive-like! Don't even need to tell us how he figgered it - he jus' KNOWS! Whoa!

Mr. Dittohead for President AND CIA Director!

George W. Bush beleives the terrorists hate us because of our freedom. His answer? Get rid of our freedoms.

Who says Republicans don't have a plan to win the Global War on Terror?

I was going to hammer Ditto again on his shady statistics.

But now I don't have to.

Thanks Jeremiah. I could not have made my point better or with 10.297% of the wit!

Wow, MA jumps right in with his specious best. Thanks for posting Marshall, evertime I see your name I realize we are in for a special craptacular feast.

(Yes, my post is contentless, but then again MA has yet to put forward any meanigful content in any of his posts.)

Pete asks, "Like you have, twisted?"

And now one of the lesser lights joins in to prove that being craptacular is a general feature of Carol's Republican readers, and not limited to such luminaries as Greg the Ignorant and Marshall Art the Specious.

To answer the question--yes, Pete, I have. You can look at my responses to Carol's post about the Rumsfeld driveway pictures. I was the first to point out that 1) the Clinton's had a similar story done about them, 2) That Rumsfeld approved th use of the photos in questions, and 3) that the Secret Service reviewed the pictures and found no security concerns with publishing them.

All three points completely on-point content that thoroughly eviscerated Carol's NY Times witch hunt point of view.

As a side benefit, I am also providing completely on point content in this point, which just proves both that Petey's snide question was baseless and that Petey is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Correction to my claim above. Item #3 in the Rummy Driveway thread was posted first by others. I apologize to those I inadvertantly slighted.
