On Women & Rape

Cathy Young points out that an accusation of rape is a heavy weapon, and that one cannot always discount the possibility that a woman will use it improperly.

She's absolutely right. I lived through an instance where, in the wake of Anita Hill's accusations against Clarence Thomas, some female contemporaries made spurious accusations of sexual harassment against male mutual acquaintances -- an ugly lesson in human nature, but a reminder of the importance of impartiality in evaluating even the most explosive allegations.

Women who make false sex-based claims are beneath contempt, and deserve neither support nor sympathy -- especially from other women. Not only are they prepared to ruin the lives of innocent men for their own twisted reasons, but they muddy the alredy-difficult path for the true victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment alike.
