The Unvarnished Truth
Tom Bevan of Real Clear Politics tells it like it is in this piece: President Bush's problems result from the perception that the war in Iraq isn't going well.
If that perception persists, there's not much "change" -- of chiefs of staff or anything else -- that will make a difference.

President Bush's problems transcend the war, Carol.
My disappointment of him comes notwithstanding that I am conservative and I think the war is going as well as could be expected.
My disappointment of him stems from basic matters of maturity. Of putting personal loyalty above national interest. Of showing detachment and a sense of entitlement over passion for said interest. Of economic mismanagement so herculean in incompetence that it's hard to know where to begin.
If it helps: I see as a sign of strength that conservatives will pick fights with one another. Liberals (at least here in America) seem not to do that.
