If he is released, he will need heavy protection from the locals. Those practishoners of the "Religion of Peace" are likely to take him apart, literally.

The savages of Afghan will murder this poor man within hours of his release and the limp government there will say they are not at fault, wash their hands of the affair and return to stuffing their pockets with aid dollars. The governments involved in Afghan's recovery should make it clear that its in the Afghan's government and its peoples' benefit to ensure his survival after his release. Of course, he will be killed. So when that happens, economic sanctions need to be imposed, but not on the entire country, only on the district where he is killed. That should be part of his release conditions.

I just had another thought...you know what scares these Islam fanatics more than anything...someone as committed to their own religion as them; it shakes their leaders to the core because it threatens the belief structure, undermines unquestioned authority, and exposes their religion to scrutiny. Yep, they gotta kill this guy before their scam starts to fall apart.
