"Depressing" News Coverage

A new LA Times poll reports that President Bush is earning low marks on the economy. Granted, Times polls don't have the greatest history of accuracy (remember this and this, for example?).

But even if the numbers are right (for once!), is it any wonder that numbers are depressed, given coverage like that detailed here?

The mainstream media doesn't have to spin positive economic news into negative. There are now more people in this country whose bread is buttered not in the private sector, but by government. These are people for whom GDP growth and its resultant benefits ACCRUE TO EVERYONE BUT THEM.

There is a tremendous difference in how a teacher views positive economic news (or a journalist) and say, a homebuilder.
