Filibuster This!
Over at Irish Pennants, Jack Kelly is reporting that Bill Frist told Tony Snow that he had the votes to use the constitutional option, if necessary.
And perhaps Frist's backbone will be made only more rigid by the silly stunt hte Dems pulled today. That, more than anything, demonstrates just how bankrupt of ideas the Democrats are -- and just how frightened they are by the mounting evidence in the wake of the Alito nomination that they've lost the political initiative. Hence, they're busily pulling defeat from what, just last week, looked like it might be the jaws of political victory.

Hardly a "silly stunt" Carol. The Democrats showed that they are not going to let Republicans drag their feet on criminal activity that endangers the safety of this country from terrorists. The Republicans are dragging their feet on the Congressional investigation of the Plame affair, and the Democrats called bullshit.
It also is a reminder of why Frist's threat to do away with the filibuster is indeed a "nuclear option." The Senate's efficient operations are based on both parties coming to consensus on how things operate. Frist, and people like yourself, have been chortling how you can't wait to do away with the Filibuster, rather than, egads, work with the opposition.
If that's what you want, then that's what you get. But remember that the Democrats have plenty of options that Dick Cheney can't dispose of on a point of order. Personally, I like it better when the parties work together, because that's what America is all about. But if you insist on a power trip, there are ways to make you behave. Your choice.
And with the resolute way that Frist handled the situation, I am sure that all of the Nuclear Option waverers are ready to walk though fire for the man.
"A slap in the face," he said. Milord, I am so impressed that the man was able to avoid an attack of the vapors.
Having Bill Frist glance at a video and declare a brain dead woman just Okey-dokey is a "silly stunt."
Having the Vice President tell the ranking minority memeber of the Senate Judiciary committee to "Go F*CK yourself" is a "silly stunt."
Having the President play dress up as a fighter pilot is a "silly stunt."
Using political theater to shame the Republicans into engaging in the type of Congressional oversight they are responsible for is not a "silly stunt."
It's such a delight when the Dems successfully contest the Republican ownership of the sobriquet "The Stupid Party".
