Carol Platt Liebau: Disastrous Democratic Decision

Disastrous Democratic Decision

Bill Kristol offers a solid analysis of the impact of Nancy Pelosi's decision to endorse withdrawal from Iraq.

It is a real political miscalculation -- for now, the Democrats have officially become the party of surrender, retreat, withdrawal. Up until now, it's the Republicans who have been split between those who are losing their nerve, and those who, like the President, are determined to stay the course.

Now, it's the Democrats who have an official split, between the lefties like Pelosi and voices of reason like Joe Lieberman, who argued convincingly in The Wall Street Journal yesterday that America can't abandon 27 million Iraqis to 10,000 terrorists.

And by having finally articulated a position -- rather than just limiting themselves to criticizing the President -- the Democrats have opened themselves to criticism. Most damaging for them is the perception, vindicated by Pelosi's action today, that they're still the party of defeat in Vietnam, of the nuclear freeze, of Clintonesque avoidance of the tough decisions that protect the American people.

As a Republican, I'm grateful that they've made their position so clear.

Yes, let's stay the course. Do nothing different. Trust in the stammering, sputtering imbecile to lead us to 'victory.' Oh wait, didn't he already do that? "Mission Accomplished," right?

Well said, Dan. Fact is, the Democrats can no longer claim to be pro-American if they do not denounce Mz Pelosi's surrender. Of course, they could hide behind the label "anonymous" as the first poster did. Hmmmmm...

Since the global war on terror is obviously too complex for you and the rest of the losers of the left to comprehend, let's put only the War in Iraq (we'll not confuse you with any of the other fronts in this global war) into a simple "To Do" list format:

1. Remove Sadaam from power - Done
2. Dismantle WMD capabilities - Done
3. Establish Democratic Government - Nearly Done
4. Train Iraqi Army & Police - In Progress

Is that simple enough for you?

As the looney left hardens their position, and as the MSM joins them, I would like to see something like the followinig included in one of George Bush's major speaches:

"And to the troops who are fighting so valiantly to secure freedom for millions and security for all Americans, I say this:

With a few notable and honorable exceptions, it has become obvious that the liberals in general and the Democrats in particular, aided by the Main Stream Media in America and abroad, are actually cheering for you to fail in this honorable and vital struggle for freedom and peace in the world. And they are actively working to make that failure happen. They have become the party of surrender and defeat in America. They desire political power at home more than victory for America abroad.

I say to you, America's finest, these people are once again on the wrong side of history. As your Commander in Chief, I tell you once again we will never tuck tail and run in the face of car bombers and baby killers. We will never bow to the political pressures of these ingnorant and dangerous defeatists.

Rather, we will continue on the course to victory in Iraq. We will continue to fight for freedom for the millions of oppressed people who strongly desire and long for that freedom.

You are heroes on the road to victory! You are changing the course of history. You are making the world a better and more peaceful place for all mankind. May God bless you as you fight the good fight."

... or something like that.

Actually, instead of the President identifying the liberals, Democrats, and MSM in particular, he should probably say something like, "there are those who ...". Then the Vice-President and others could be the ones to point out that "those who" are the liberals, Democrats, and MSM.

Or how about this in a speech...

"While those mealy-mouthed liberals continue to ask why we're here and ask for accountability from your Commander-in-Chief, I look to you, our brave troops, to provide the cover I need.

There are some who say I am out of touch with reality. Heck, I'm very in touch with reality. Without you, defense and security contractors all across America would be barely breaking even, sitting on equipment that is only useful in times of war and disaster. That's a reality.

It's also a reality that you are helping to preserve the American way of life, allowing millions of your more privileged peers to live out their war fantasies by driving brand new Hummers and playing their Xbox war games while you drive around in yours looking for IED's. I know, I know, sometimes you all lose a limb or two, but rest assured, as soon as you arrive at Walter Reed, you'll be taken care of, for a fee.

Some might ask, Mr. President, if you care so much about our troops, why don't you issue an executive order federalizing the Hummer plant so we can build some truly armored vehicles that can withstand an IED blast? Well now, what they don't understand is that America's military men and women are tough, and they have told me their doing just find with the metal scraps they've welded onto these thirty-year-old vehicles.

Like me, you solve problems, because you're problem-solvers.

I count myself among you, the brave men and women who answered the call to defend this country. Uncle Dick had other priorities, but I was there in the Guard during the darkest days of Vietnam. I remember one dark night in Alabama -- well, the first part of it, anyway -- when we were getting hammered and there seemed no end in sight. When the darkness lifted, I couldn't believe the carnage. There were empty bottles everywhere, clothing scattered all about, and the stench... well, any of you who have smelled tequila vomit know what I'm talking about.

Well, that's it, it's 9 p.m. and I have to go to bed now. God bless y'all. And God bless America."

Well said by all the right side.

Just one more point. It's no accident there's been no other terrorist attacks on American soil since Sept. 11, 2001.

That's what staying the course will do for you.

I _like_ that! Good job!

No Annoyamous, that would be the speech as given by Ted Kennedy. The hypocracy of a liberal asking GW for accountability when Bill Clinton was never asked for it about says it all. Just wondering what you were thinking back in the days of the unilateral bombing of Bosnia by Billy Boy. Oh that's right, he was busy lying about Monica. And BTW, that great culture of corruption that the left wing keeps spouting? That was brought on by Bill and Hillary too. After all, Bill was found guilty of perjury and was disbarred. But he was a great president anyway...

Stay the course. Had we listened to libs, we would have quit on April 8, 2003, to avoid a quagmire.
The next day, statuary fell.
We would have quit on June 27, 2004 because Iraq was not ready for an interim government.
On June 28, 2004, the government was handed over.
We would have quit Jan. 29, 2005, because they were not ready for an elction.
Jan. 30, 2005, the election that rocked the world.
Libs will never, ever credit the prez. So what? They still think teh Rosenbergs were innocent.
