Thank You, John Fund
This is exactly right:
Conservatives should start to realize the fun and political gain that liberals are having at their expense. While skepticism of Ms. Miers is justified, the time is fast approaching when such expressions should be muted until the Senate hearings begin. At that point, Ms. Miers will finally be able to speak for herself. And those on both sides of the political spectrum will be able to make a more informed judgment.

Carol's right. All of you conservative grumpy-worts should just calm down. After all, what's the worst that can happen? It's not like the President's popularity ratings can go much lower.
Oh sure, Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Dick Cheney could all get indicted in the next couple of weeks for outing Valerie Plame, but it is still an open legal question as to whether you can actually indict a sitting President.
I'm sure Arlen Specter will expeditiously schedule Ms. Miers's confirmation hearings. So sometime in--what?--November...January at the latest, you'll get around to finding out whether Ms. Mier's should be confirmed.
Even if you all decide she isn't the best candidate for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land, then President Bush (because, remember, he probably can't be indicted) will be able to nominate Alberto Gonzales right at the start of the 2006 election year.
While the Attorney General undergoes his confirmation process, Judge Sandra Day O'Connor will finish out the 2005-2006 term as an associate justice. This outcome would make Senator Arlen Specter happy.
See, I told you it's not all that bad.
