Hillary is a Centrist?
Even the LA Times greets that assertion with some skepticism in a piece titled "Clinton is Cultivating an Image as a Centrist." Obviously, image isn't reality.
Clinton is often given credit for being a formidable politician. But when every political shift and twitch is so transparently obvious -- and so obviously calculated -- how skilful a politician can one be?
And her 2000 share of 55% of the vote in New York is impressive, but not frightening. It would be like Newt Gingrich winning 55% in Georgia or South Carolina. It proves nothing except that Hillary is popular in one of the most liberal states in the country. What's the surprise? Heck, Massachusetts has reelected John Kerry and Ted Kennedy time after time -- but it doesn't mean that either were destined to have broad nationwide appeal.
Finally, note the story's final quote -- that there will be resistance to Hillary's running for President because of the opening she gives to the other side. Sounds a lot like this.
