Ted Kennedy, American Defeatist
Teddy Kennedy has, unpardonably, asserted that Iraq has descended into a Vietnam-like "quagmire." Perhaps the wish is father to the thought, Senator -- nothing makes liberals like Kennedy happier than witnessing America's travails.
He's wrong, of course. It's completely unreasonable (as should be clear to any normal person) that, given the influx of foreign fighters and other difficulties, Iraq would be operating at 100% just 5 months after its historic vote. Big changes take time, and it's imperative that the President help the American people understand that the only way that America can lose Iraq is by heeding the drumbeat of doom being peddled by Teddy and his ilk.
And BTW: Teddy is good at pointing out the mistakes of others. You would think -- given the mistakes in his life, ranging from Chappaquiddick on the personal side to his history during the Cold War -- that a little humility would be in order. Apparently not.

Does it ever occur to leaders like Congressman Durbin and Kennedy, Byrd and Pelosi, Kerry and Clinton, Schumer and Biden that the reason the insurgency is as strong as it ever has been, that the car bomb and suicide attacks happen with greater frequency, that suicidal zealots keep pouring across the Iranian and Syrian borders, that U.S. recruitment is down, that public opinion is low, that Troop morale is waning, that International support is diminishing, that the reconstruction in Iraq is so difficult, the reason that there are fewer Iraqi forces than expected, the reason that Iraqi's are being slaughtered by the thousands, and peace has not yet been established...
... is because they continue to encourage the carnage?
Sadly, Mr. Atos, I suspect that it HAS occurred to all of them at one time or another, and that they are doing it on purpose, a la Vietnam.
Their underlying reason, I suspect, is a deep-seated hatred for President Bush. To fail in this war is "only" a way for them to "Get Bush. Sadly, I don't believe that they can see any larger consequences.
I no longer question their patriotism. As far as I'm concerned, they don't have any.
